Frontier vs Allegiant bag fees
Both only include a free personal item. Here's what bags really add, and a calculator to compare your exact trip.
True Flight Cost
Fare + bags + seat, itemized. One-way, per person.
Fees change often and vary by route, date and status. Ranges mean the airline prices dynamically. Always verify with the airline before you book. Sources & last-checked dates.
Side by side
| Frontier | Allegiant | |
|---|---|---|
| Personal item | Free | Free |
| Carry-on | $29–$99 | $10–$75 |
| 1st checked bag | $30–$99 | $20–$75 |
| 2nd checked bag | $45–$117 | $30–$75 |
| Checked bag weight limit | 40 lb | See airline |
Neither airline publishes a fixed fee table. Prices change by route, date and when you buy, so the ranges are reported online prices. Sources: Frontier, Allegiant.
Which is cheaper?
It depends on the route. The ranges overlap almost completely, so the airline with the lower fare doesn't always win once you add a bag. Enter the real prices you see at checkout into the calculator above to get the true total.
How to pay less on either airline
- Add bags when you book. Both charge the most at the airport.
- Check bundle prices. On Frontier, a bundle can cost less than buying items one by one.
- Pack to Frontier's 40 lb limit, not the usual 50 lb.
Spirit used to be the third option here, but it shut down in May 2026.
